The IBEW and CWA have finalized an agreement with the company, on a one time basis, to allow Verizon to grant 50 Verizon Communications restricted stock units to full time members and employees who are on the payroll on February 1st 2018. This grant to members and employees includes members on company approved leaves of absence, including without limitation short term disability leave and accident disability leave, provided that the member returns to work prior to January 31st 2020. The 50 restricted stock units or (RSU’s) will split into two vesting dates. 25 of the RSU’s will become vested on January 31st 2019 and the remaining 25 will become vested on January 31st 2020. At each of these vesting dates the 25 RSU’s will be valued at the stock price on that vesting date. At that time a cash value will be awarded to members minus any withholding taxes and other legally required deductions. The amount of cash that is paid  shall equal the number of RSU’s that vested on each of these 2 dates times the closing price of Verizon’s common stock on the NYSE as of the vested date.  There are no other options for these stock units. All payments under these award terms shall be made in cash. If you should retire you will still be awarded the 50 stock units on both vesting dates. The only members who will not be awarded RSU’s are members who are terminated for just cause and members who do not return to work prior to January 31st 2020. Members will receive a grant notice in the mail from Verizon explaining this offering. If you have any questions please call this office.

I wanted to thank all of you who donated, supported, and volunteered your time this past weekend at our annual Feed-A-Family event. This was our most successful year so far. With your donations we were able to provide a Thanksgiving basket to over 300 families. Last Thursday, CCAP received 100 baskets, and on Sunday we delivered over 200 directly to the homes of families in need. CCAP is one of Rhode Island’s largest organizations dedicated solely to fighting the war on poverty, and were extremely generous to Local 2323 members during our 2016 strike. I’m grateful we have had the opportunity to  give back to some of our friends in the community who have done so much to us.

Please be advised that due to recent severe weather conditions in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, effective Wednesday, November 1, 2017, the Company will invoke Article P3.06 (see article below) and suspend overtime limitations for Splice-Service Technicians to care for the service difficulties. This affects all areas in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The overtime limitations will also be suspended for Administrative Assistants in the OCC in Medway.

The impacted SSTs and AAs will be required to work twelve hours each day, not including their lunch break. It is expected that impacted employees will work eight hours on Sunday, this will be reviewed on Friday.

P3.06 – “In Plant, an “emergency” is an event of national importance, fire, explosion,  or other catastrophe, severe weather conditions, major cable and equipment failures, or an act of God. When an emergency related to severe weather conditions occurs, the Director involved shall discuss it with the Local Union’s Business Manager and the Director – Labor Relations or his representative prior to suspending overtime limitations. The Union’s views on how to best deal with the situation should be solicited and considered. When an emergency related to any other event occurs, the Director involved shall notify the Local Union’s Business Manager and the Director – Labor Relations or his representative as soon as possible after the event.”
