Richard

DILORENZO, RICHARD P. 59, passed away Monday morning unexpectedly in his family’s Athens, ME camp. Richard was the beloved husband and best friend of Ellen F. (Curtin/Marsella) DiLorenzo for twenty five years; and father to Shane R. DiLorenzo of Cranston; and to Jennifer L. Marsella, formerly of Phoenix, AZ and currently of Providence, RI. Other family members Richard leaves behind are his mother, Vincenza (Palmaccio) DiLorenzo of Cranston; brother Joseph DiLorenzo, MD and his late wife, Kathleen Moffitt, PhD, of Saunderstown; and sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and Donald Borrelli; brothers-in-law William A. Curtin and John E. Curtin. Richard grew up in Cranston and many of his fondest memories were of being surrounded by his friends and family. He graduated Cranston High School West and went on to RI Trade Shops. Richard loved spending time with his uncle, doing repair work at his garage, Johnny D’s on Cranston Street. He also worked at Central Nurseries on and off throughout the years. His next job took him to New England Telephone in 1983. Richard retired from Verizon in 2010. Currently, he was co-owner and building manager of West Bay Medical Associates II. Richard and Ellen enjoyed turning their house into a home, and raising Jennifer and Shane. They enjoyed the times they spent together visiting the woods of Maine, as well as the Loudon, NH NASCAR racetrack. In the early 1990s, the family began visiting the northwest region of Maine, and fell in love with the landscape and fun activities such as snowmobiling and ATVing, nights around the campfires, laughing with friends and building their small retirement Shangri la. This was their “home away from home”. In May 2013, Richard and Shane both graduated from MTTI with certifications in motorcycle and small engine repair. Richard was a proud parent of both Jennifer and Shane. Jennifer returned to RI to finally complete her BA at RIC in May 2009. He loved having his family all together, whether just eating a meal, watching football, or attending hockey games. It didn’t matter as long as they were together. “We got to do the things we wanted to do.” His funeral will be held from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Saturday at 10 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church, Cranston at 11 a.m. Burial will take place in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
