2023 IBEW Local 2323 Scholarship Eligibility and Rules

Local 2323, I.B.E.W. Telephone Division in Rhode Island is pleased to announce the annual renewal for 2023 of its scholarship in the amount of $1000.00 per year for the sons and daughters of active dues paying members. In order for you to understand the rules for eligibility and selection of the scholarships for 2023, the Executive Board of this Local has drawn up the following guidelines:

Eligibility

The applicant shall be the natural or legally adopted child up to the age of 25 of an active dues paying member in good standing of Local 2323 for six months at the time of this application or a retired dues paying member in good standing of Local 2323.

  1. Graduate of any public, private or parochial high school or the equivalent who plan to attend a school of higher education.
  2. Acceptance at an accredited college or school of higher education.
  3. Verification of union membership of Local 2323 of parent and address of employment, if applicable.
  4. The deadline will be the day of the Executive Board meeting on July 27th.

Committee Rules

  1. The Scholarship Committee is appointed by the President.
  2. The winners will be selected at the Executive Board meeting in July.
  3. There will be 6 names drawn.
    1. The first three (3) names drawn will be the winners of the 2023 IBEW Local 2323 Scholarship in the amount of $1000.00.
    1. The fourth name drawn will be the 1st runner up. The fifth name drawn will be the 2nd runner up, and so on.
  4. The scholarship will not be confined to academic programs but will also be granted to students planning post-graduate or vocational studies.
  5. Should the winner of the scholarship transfer to another college or school of higher education during the term of the scholarship, the Scholarship Committee must be notified and may review whether the scholarship should continue.
  6. The award will be paid to the parent of the $1000.00 scholarship recipient upon proof of receipt or proof of payment to the institution of higher learning for that semester, not to exceed $1000.00
  7. There will be only one application accepted per child (not per member).
  8. The scholarship for 2023 will be terminated when the recipient:
    1. has received a total of $1000.00 from the Scholarship fund;
    1. has completed the course of study for an undergraduate degree or post graduate degree:
    1. is expelled, suspended, or withdraws from the selected college or school of high education.
  9. It is expected that the scholarship program will continue indefinitely, however, conditions may require changes or modifications. The right to modify or terminate the program, in whole or in part is reserved by the committee. In the event of such changes, scholarships in effect will be continued for their duration.

IBEW Founders’ Scholarship

Awarded only to IBEW members

The IBEW Founders’ Scholarship honors the dedicated wiremen and linemen who, on November 28, 1891, organized the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Each year the officers of the IBEW are pleased to offer its working members scholarships on a competitive basis. It is hoped that the awards will not only contribute to the personal development of our members but also steward the electrical industry that our founders envisioned.

The award is for $200 per semester credit hour at any accredited college or university toward an associate’s, bachelor’s or postgraduate degree in an approved field. The maximum distribution is $24,000 per person over a period not to exceed eight years

CPS Award

The Union has been notified by Verizon this years Corporate Profit Sharing (CPS Award) will be $700.00 paid on Friday 3/3/2023.

Also the Attendance Bonus (2022 attendance year) payment of up to 5 days pay will be paid to eligible employees on 3/3/2023.

TOY DRIVE – IBEW AND VERIZON

Local 2323 and Verizon have teamed up to host a toy drive to benefit a local organization, CCAP. Please bring a new, unwrapped toy to any garage location or to the collection box at the Union hall. All toys must be received by 12/21 in order to be delivered to CCAP to distribute to families in need.

Northern Unit Meeting

The Northern Unit will meet 1st Wednesday of each month @ Tavern 6 TWO 1 – 621 Pound Hill Rd, North Smithfield, RI 02896.

Southern Unit Meeting

The Southern Unit will meet the 2nd Wednesday of each month. The meetings are now held at PJ’s Pub 135 Boon St, Narragansett, RI 02882.

Please be advised that the E-Board has postponed the Metro meeting indefinitely until we find a new location.

East Bay Unit Meeting
