The golf tournament in memory of Don Mallette will be held on June 3rd, names and money are due in by May 7th. Please contact Ray Silvestri or Dan Musard to secure your spot on the golf course....If you would like to come out for the dinner afterwards it is $25.

Telephone Regulation and Modernization Act..... Senate Bill S-2393

Please take a couple minutes of your time today to TAKE ACTION on a Bill being heard tomorrow in the Rhode Island Senate. This Bill would allow Verizon to determine when to stop offering traditional telephone service to customers without any oversight by the Public Utilities Commission and Division of Public Utilities and Caniers. The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 2323, which is affiliated with the Rhode Island AFL-CIO represents well over 900 Verizon employees and passage of this bill would be devastating to these employees and could result in the loss of well paying middle class jobs. Along with the potential loss of jobs to these skilled workers, we are equally concerned about the loss of consumer protections over rates, terms and conditions, and billing for those customers who are still provided basic telephone service, many of whom are part of our elderly population.

AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka has designated March 22nd as a day of action against Verizon. There will be rallies held all across the country to stand up against Verizon and corporate greed. IBEW Local 2323's rally will be held at 234 Washington St. in Providence at 5:30 p.m. Please make every effort to attend!!! If you have a motorcycle and would like to be a part of the rolling rally please call Ray Cimino at 401-486-6449. The motorcycles will be meeting at 288 Allens Ave in Providence at 5 p.m.

Northern Unit Executive Board Seat Declared Vacant

During the previous Executive Board meeting, President Steve Murphy declared the Northern Unit, Executive Board seat vacant. The IBEW Constitution article XVI section 16 states "vacancies occurring in any L.U. office shall be filled by the L.U. Executive Board until the next regular election". If any members are interested in being considered for the Northern Unit, Executive Board position, please send a letter to the President stating your interest by February 23, 2012. The Executive Board will review all applicants at the next scheduled meeting.

IBEW Local 2323 Mourns

IBEW Local 2323 mourns the loss of one of our own, OPT Don Mallette. Don was an excellent Union member, friend, family member, father, and husband. The visiting hours for Brother Mallette will be held at Quinn funeral home, Monday Jan. 2nd between the hours of 4-8 p.m. His memorial service will be held Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 10am at the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave. followed by interment with military honors at the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.
